When Grace Finds Us
“Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” He replied to him, “Amen, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise.” Luke 22:42 43
There is something very moving about this moment on Calvary. Two men hung beside Jesus, both facing the same suffering, both knowing their time was short. Yet only one turned toward Him with a quiet plea. It was not a polished prayer. It was not filled with promises or long explanations. It was simply a tired heart asking to be remembered.
We often carry an idea that we need to clean ourselves up before approaching Jesus. We try to craft the right words, fix our mistakes, or at least put on a braver face. But the thief reminds us that grace meets us exactly where we are. He had nothing to offer except honesty. And that was enough.
Jesus did not pause to consider his past. He did not hesitate. He answered with the kind of assurance that brings peace even to a troubled soul. Today you will be with me in Paradise. These words reveal the heart of Christ. He sees the smallest spark of faith and welcomes it. He listens when we whisper His name, even in our weakest moment.
This scene also invites us to look at our own journey. There may be places in our lives that feel worn out or beyond repair. There may be parts of us we would rather hide. Yet Christ does not turn away. He remembers us even when we struggle to remember ourselves. His promise is not based on how strong we are. It rests completely on how faithful He is.
Whenever life feels heavy or confusing, we can return to this moment on the cross. A simple prayer opened the way to hope. It reminds us that nothing is too late when we come to Jesus with a sincere heart.
Where in your life do you need to speak a simple and honest prayer to Jesus today?
Lord Jesus, thank you for meeting me with compassion even when my heart feels tired. Teach me to come to you with honesty and trust. Hold me close when I feel lost, and help me remember that your mercy is always greater than my fears.
Amen.
