Mary, Our Mother, Guide, and Terror of Demons

Mary, Our Mother, Guide, and Terror of Demons

“Behold your mother.” — John 19:27
Reflection: At the Cross, Jesus gave Mary to all believers. She is our spiritual mother, guiding, comforting, and interceding for us. Let us honor her presence in our lives daily.

Mary is not simply a distant figure in salvation history; she is our mother, our compass, and our guide in the journey of faith. God, in His wisdom, gave us Mary at the foot of the Cross when Jesus said to St. John, “Behold your mother” (John 19:27). From that moment on, she became the mother of all believers—a sure refuge, intercessor, and companion on our way to eternal life.

Mary, Our Compass and Guide

Just as a compass points north to guide a traveler, Mary points us unfailingly to her Son, Jesus Christ. Her words at the wedding feast at Cana remain timeless: “Do whatever He tells you” (John 2:5). In every difficulty, confusion, or dryness of faith, Mary reorients our steps to the path of obedience, humility, and trust in Christ. She never seeks glory for herself; rather, she shines only so that her Son may be glorified.

When we feel lost, Mary leads us gently by the hand. When we stumble, she lifts us up as a tender mother. Her humility and purity make her a trustworthy guide, for she has already walked the road of suffering, faith, and obedience before us.

For those whose faith is decreasing, she acts as a light to reignite their faith. For those confused about their faith, the Catholic faith, and the state of their soul, she offers divine clarity. And to those who totally do not believe and are faithless, she teaches them faith, offers them hope, and helps their unbelief.

Devotional Thought
Mary is our spiritual GPS. When life’s storms and confusion overwhelm us, her guidance always points to Christ. Trust her directions as you would a trusted guide on a difficult journey.

Mary Knows Our Sufferings

Mary knows all our sufferings because she bore them in her own body. She lived through poverty, exile, misunderstanding, sorrow, and the greatest pain of all—watching her Son suffer and die on the Cross. This makes it easier for us to approach her with confidence, knowing she understands every detail of our pain.

Contemplation
“She bore them all in her mortal body and unites them to the sufferings of Christ.”
Reflection: Approach Mary with confidence. She knows every detail of your suffering and will bring it to Jesus with maternal care.

She is more than willing to intercede for us, even more than we are willing to approach her. Like at Cana, when the wedding wine ran dry, she sees our needs before we even speak them. She takes them to Jesus and whispers on our behalf: “They have no wine.” And her words still echo to us: “Do whatever He tells you.”

As Queen of Families, she longs to be present in our homes, guiding us to imitate the Holy Family of Nazareth in humility, obedience, and faith. As Queen of Peace, she grants serenity not only in our homes and societies but also in our troubled hearts and minds. As Queen of Angels, she is honored by the heavenly host, and we too must love and respect her with the same devotion.

Mary also reminds us of her promises through her apparitions at Lourdes, Guadalupe, Fatima, Kibeho, and Egypt—messages of repentance, conversion, peace, and prayer. She leads us to Christ and never away from Him.

When we pray the Rosary, every bead is like a soft reminder of her maternal presence, each Hail Mary a thread of hope binding us closer to Jesus. The Fatima prayer reminds us of her mission: “Lead all souls to heaven, especially those most in need of thy mercy.”

Mary, our Mother, help us respect and honor our parents, elders, and the Church. Help us raise faithful children, grow in humility, and remain steadfast in God’s love. Mary, I love you, my Mother. Jesus, I trust in You.

Why Mary Terrifies the Devil

The devil cannot imitate humility. He is such a proud creature, and that is why he lost the glory of Heaven. Mary, however, is the model of humility. Her quiet “yes” to God at the Annunciation overturned the pride of the devil and opened the gates of salvation. This is why we must cling to her—for the devil trembles at the very mention of her name.

The devil trembles because God Himself has exalted Mary above all women, crowning her as Queen of Heaven and Earth. From the beginning, in Genesis 3:15, God declared enmity between the woman and the serpent: “She will crush your head, and you will strike at her heel.” Just as sin came into the world through Eve, salvation came through Mary.

Mary’s humility, obedience, and purity are weapons sharper than any sword against Satan’s pride, rebellion, and corruption. The evil one cannot stand her because she is everything he is not—obedient where he was disobedient, humble where he was proud, pure where he is corrupt, life-giving where he is death-dealing.

She terrifies demons because she is the Mother of Jesus, the one they cannot defeat. Her very presence in our lives is a shield against spiritual terrors and wars. When we call upon her as Our Lady, Terror of Demons, she comes swiftly to protect us, not by her own power, but by the power of God who has raised her high.

Spiritual Insight
The devil fears Mary’s humility, purity, and obedience. Call on her in spiritual battles—she is a formidable protector through God’s power.

The saints teach us that when we pray the Rosary, demons flee. St. Louis de Montfort even wrote that Mary is the quickest, safest, and most direct way to Christ—and the most effective destroyer of Satan’s plans.

Mary is truly our Mother, Guide, and Protector. She walks with us, prays for us, and shields us from the snares of the enemy. Let us run to her with childlike confidence, knowing that she always leads us closer to her Son, Jesus.

Mary, may you be present in every aspect of our lives. Teach us to imitate your humility, Joseph’s faithfulness, and Christ’s obedience. Intercede for our families, our societies, and most especially our troubled minds and hearts. Crush the head of the serpent in our lives and lead us always into the arms of your beloved Son, help us say with confidence and faith "I am the handmaid of the Lord, may it be done to me according to His Holy Will."

Mary, Our Mother and Terror of Demons—pray for us. Jesus, I trust in You.
