God First
Why We Should Run to Him Before Anyone Else?
When storms rise and our hearts are heavy, our first instinct often betrays our faith. Instead of falling on our knees, we reach for the phone. Instead of entering the throne room of grace, we enter the court of human opinion. But why should a broken soul consult the created before the Creator?
1. God Knows You Best
“Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you.” – Jeremiah 1:5.
No one understands your heart like the One who made it. Friends may mean well, but they see only fragments. God sees the full picture—your past wounds, your present pain, and your eternal destiny.
2. Friends Can Mislead
Many well-intentioned friends lack spiritual discernment. In desperation, they suggest solutions rooted in the world or even in darkness:
“Try a charm to keep your partner.”
“See a fortune-teller—they’ll help you.”
“Everyone is doing this, just blend in.”
“Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take…” – Psalm 1:1
These are traps that only increase spiritual bondage. When we seek advice before prayer, we risk replacing God with man—and that's dangerous.
3. The Devil Offers Fast, Fatal Alternatives
The enemy capitalizes on our impatience. He whispers: “You prayed, and nothing happened—try this instead.”
“God is taking too long.”
“Take control. Fix it yourself.”
But remember: the devil's solutions come with chains and consequences. What looks like relief is often a road to deeper destruction.
“There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.” – Proverbs 14:12
4. God Waits Patiently for Us
Even when we run to friends, mediums, or charms, God waits. Like the father of the prodigal son, He stands at the gate, longing for our return. He doesn’t condemn us for our past mistakes—He invites us into His presence with healing and hope.
“Call to Me and I will answer you…” – Jeremiah 33:3
5. Go to God First—Then Godly Friends
It’s not wrong to talk to trusted spiritual friends—but after you’ve prayed. After you've sought His Word, after you've cried to the Holy Spirit.
“Without counsel plans fail, but with many advisers they succeed.” – Proverbs 15:22
But not just any advisers—godly ones. Friends rooted in Christ will lead you back to the Cross, not away from it.
A Prayer of Surrender
Lord, forgive me for the times I ran to people before I ran to You. Teach me to seek You first in my pain, confusion, and fear. May Your voice be louder than all others. Protect me from wrong counsel. Surround me with truth-bearers, not charm-offerers. You alone are my refuge and strength. Amen.
God first. Before the friend. Before the phone call. Before the post on social media.
God is not just Plan A—He is the only plan.
Let this truth mark your soul: Nothing heals like His presence. Nothing misleads like charm. Nothing satisfies like His Word.
