Mary, Model Mother and Mediatrix of Grace

On this day we celebrate our earthly mothers, we also lift our eyes to the one who embodies perfect motherhood Mary, the Mother of God. Her example is not only timeless but deeply relevant for today’s mothers and for all the faithful who long to grow closer to Christ. She is both the model of maternal love and the Mediatrix of all graces, the one who nurtured Jesus in the flesh and continues to intercede for us from her throne in Heaven. Mary, the Model for All Mothers From the moment she said "yes" to the angel Gabriel, Mary became the first to embrace God's plan with full trust. She bore the Son of God with humility, raised Him with love, and remained with Him even in His suffering. Mary’s motherhood was not only biological; it was deeply spiritual, filled with unshakable faith, contemplative prayer, and sacrificial love. She taught Jesus how to pray. Twenty-two days into Lent and our twenty-second resolution is Reciting the Chaplet of Divine Mercy daily. Today's Gospel from Matthew 18:21–22 (NABRE) beautifully aligns with this devotion: “Then Peter approaching asked him, ‘Lord, if my brother sins [against me], how often must I forgive him? As many as seven times?’ Jesus answered, ‘I say to you, not seven times but seventy-seven times.’” After replying to Peter, Jesus tells the Parable of the Unforgiving Servant, illustrating God's boundless mercy and our call to mirror it. The servant owed his master a “huge amount”—literally “ten thousand talents” in Greek, an unimaginable debt equivalent to about 200,000 years of wages for a day laborer, or roughly 24 billion U.S. dollars in modern terms for a worker making $50 an hour.
